President celebrates deal with Zico
Patricia Amorim praises Galinho and believes the project can yield great results for the club

Reinforcements on the field are still being analyzed and may be announced soon, but Flamengo has already made a crucial signing for its football. The club's greatest idol, Zico, accepted president Patricia Amorim's offer to take over as executive director of football, making the red-and-blacks' Sunday a much happier day.
And among Flamengo's more than 35 million fans, one in particular is thrilled with the deal. It's president Patricia Amorim herself, who heaped praise on the Gávea club's eternal number 10 and expressed great confidence in the long-term project, which runs until December 2012.
"He's our executive and he's back home. We managed to bring Zico to work for our Flamengo. It's a project for the future that starts now. The trust in our conversation and in a transparent and committed relationship was fundamental. He's special, different, and always thinks of what's best for Flamengo," he said.
Zico's leadership of the red-and-black team won't be limited to the professional level. Galinho will also play a key role in the youth teams and in the completion of the construction of the Ninho do Urubu Training Center in Vargem Grande.
"Him leading football makes me feel more at ease. I've committed to raising funds and starting construction on the training center now. I'll work toward that goal until the end of my term. I hope we can regain some credibility and get back on track. Having Zico is a huge step toward that," he said.
The new CEO of football will be introduced on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Rogério Steinberg Auditorium. On Wednesday, he will travel to South Africa and take office after the World Cup opening ceremony.
"I want the nation to have full conviction that I do everything with Flamengo in mind. And now the important thing is that Zico is in Gávea," the president concluded.
