The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed its approval for the creation of the Sul-Minas-Rio tournament this Friday (October 9.10th). With this initiative, Flamengo will face a new challenge for the next season, which already includes other major Brazilian football clubs. Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, president of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, praised the initiative.

"I think it was a very important decision by the CBF, and this approval was expected, since this Rio-Sul-Minas Cup, or whatever name it will have, only serves to enhance the Confederation's calendar. Our expectation was that the CBF would understand that there is no kind of conflict and we are simply looking for an attractive and profitable option for the first months of the year," he stated.

For Bandeira de Mello, it's now time to think about the next steps.

"From here on out, we need to move forward on operational and commercial issues. I think it's already decided that the tournament starts on January 28th, but I don't know when it starts for Flamengo. I think next week we'll have to define all these details to adapt them to our calendar," he revealed.
