The Brasileirão's World Cup break has fueled increasing speculation regarding transactions in Brazilian football. Defending champion Flamengo is always in the eye of the storm, and Tuesday (June 08.06) was no exception. After speculation of a deal between Flamengo and coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, known as Felipão, the club's president came forward to clarify some aspects of the relationship with the fifth-time champion coach in 2002.
Patricia Amorim met with some journalists at Gávea in the early evening and made a point of saying that every big name is of interest to Flamengo, but there is nothing concrete with Scolari.
"Having interest is one thing. Closing a contract, an agreement, is another. We always strive to rely on the best, and Felipão is at that level. He's a great figure, and there was a conversation, yes. It was a flirtation that led to a closer relationship, but it takes time for a marriage to happen. It's complex, especially when dealing with a professional of his caliber," said the Flamengo president.
The director also stated that Felipão knew about Flamengo's project, but also showed that he was aware that the coach would be closer to other clubs.
"From what I know, he has other proposals. Clubs even approached us before Flamengo. I'm waiting for Zico to arrive next week to set up the club's entire football structure. With him (Zico) in the spotlight, these big names may be more receptive to our project. Zico enchants many professionals and shows that our planning is serious," explained Patrícia, clarifying that the red-black team's focus is on the future.
"Our initial proposal to Felipão was something for the future, but it's been narrowed down. If it happens, it will be a huge victory. We don't have anything set in stone. It's up to me to wait for Zico to arrive and discuss these football-related matters," he concluded, clarifying that everyone in Flamengo's football team knows what's going on.
"Rogério is our coach. If anything materializes in the future, he will know. Because I have a busy schedule, I don't talk to him as much as I would like. But I keep him, as well as Isaías (Tinoco), informed about everything that happens in Flamengo football. It's our conduct. Rogério knows he is loved by us and, particularly, by me."
