Preparations for the 2014 World Cup will begin soon in Rio de Janeiro. The Maracanã stadium is expected to be closed in the coming months for restructuring, which would bring it fully into compliance with FIFA's requirements. Flamengo will therefore have to play its Brazilian Championship matches at a different stadium.

President Patricia Amorim, in a press conference held on Tuesday morning (01.06), revealed the board's plans. Volta Redonda, Engenhão and Juiz de Fora appear among the main destinations.

"There is a possibility that Maracanã will remain open until October, but we are still in talks with Juiz de Fora, Engenhão and Volta Redonda to host Flamengo's games. These are the options," said Patricia.

During the presentation of Zico as the new executive director of football at Rubro-Negro, the president also explained the agreement with Galinho and how he will be paid.

"We're receiving a great gift from our partners. It's a comfortable equation for Flamengo, for the sponsors, and for Zico. The company uses his image in its campaigns, pays for it, and we'll have him here," he said.

Even before the World Cup, Flamengo returns to play at Maracanã next weekend. On Saturday (05.06), the team hosts Goiás, at 18:30 pm.
