Pressure on the court

Last week was busy for Fla's futsal teams, after the return of the State Championship.

Last week was a busy one for Flamengo's futsal team. With eight categories and ten matches under their belts, Flamengo took to the court determined to earn important points for the second stage of the 2008 State Futsal Championship.

The youth teams faced the teams from Uncle Sam on Tuesday (October 21st) away from home and did not achieve good results. The under-10 team lost 09-3 and the under-1 team 11-3. The under-0 team started with a 13-3 draw. Despite these results, the three categories remain in the qualifying zone for the second phase of the Championship.

The under-15 and under-17 teams took to the court on Wednesday (22/10), also away from home, to face the Combinado 5 de Julho teams, winning both matches. The under-15 team won 6-1. The under-17 team, which was losing the game 3-1, managed to turn the score around and ended up winning 5-3. Both teams remained in the classification zone for the second phase.

The youth team played twice this week and didn't perform well. On Tuesday (October 21st), they faced league leaders Iguaçu in an away match and lost 10-5. On Friday (October 3th), they returned to action, this time facing Portuguesa, also on the opposing team's home court, and drew 24-10. Despite the poor results, the team from Gávea remains in second place in the group and in the qualifying zone for the final stage of the Championship.

The girls also took to the court, but lost to the Casa de España team 5-1. The women's team is in second-to-last place, outside the qualifying zone for the second phase.

The competition didn't stop there. The Gávea teams continue to work hard to secure the best results. Last Tuesday, their youth team opponents were the Mangueira teams. Next Saturday (November 1st), they face the Mauá teams away from home, starting at 11:9 am.

The under-15 and under-17 teams play on Saturday (1/11), against Nilopolitano, away from home, starting at 15 pm. Meanwhile, the adult team will go to Vassouras to face Severino Sombra, in the first game of the State quarterfinals. The game will be this Friday (31/11), starting at 20 pm.
