Flamengo's nautical headquarters hosted, this Saturday (10), the party in honor of the 80th anniversary of Charanga Rubro-Negra. Founded by the legendary Jayme de Carvalho, on October 11, 1942, the first organized fan club in the history of Brazilian football celebrates Carvalho's jubilee. They have been playing alongside Flamengo for eight decades, whether at Maracanã or wherever they are.

The barbecue had a lot of music, the result of the traditional rapport between the Nation and the Charanga, and was attended by authorities from Rio de Janeiro, members, fans, directors and vice-presidents, as well as president Rodolfo Landim.

"The first memory I have of Maracanã is of Charanga, in the final in 1963. It is a great pleasure to be part of this tribute”, said the red-black leader, who gave the president of Charanga Rubro-Negra, Mr. Guigui Nascimento, a commemorative plaque as part of the celebrations. 

The Charanga changed the way people watch football. It first appeared in 1942, during a Fla-Flu match in Laranjeiras. The audience, accustomed to elegant clothing and applause for good plays, was gradually swallowed up by the popular celebration that Jayme de Carvalho brought to the stands. Announcer Ary Barroso nicknamed the band "charanga" due to the questionable quality of the musicians of the time. It is the root of all other Flamengo fan groups.

"Jayme was a party animal. Our goal is to throw a party," said Guigui.
