Petkovic doesn't yet know if he'll play the full 90 minutes, but it's highly unlikely. However, the Serbian guarantees that while he's on the pitch in São Paulo next Wednesday against Palmeiras, he'll do his best to help Flamengo return from Pacaembu Stadium with a three-point lead in the 2010 Brazilian Championship standings.
Last Saturday, Pet returned to the starting lineup for Flamengo in the 1-1 draw against Grêmio, scoring the only goal for the red-and-black team. Despite his strong performance, he was substituted in the second half due to fatigue. This is likely to happen again against the São Paulo team, but the Serbian is confident of a better result than last weekend.
"I was injured, out for five days, coming back from an injury, and in the press conference I gave on Friday, before the game, I warned that I wouldn't be able to play 90 minutes. But the important thing is that I didn't feel anything and I performed well. It's a shame we didn't get the three points, but patience. We still have a long way to go and the important thing is for Flamengo to play well and get the best result possible," he said.
Acclaimed by fans at Maracanã, the foreigner thanked the red-blacks for their traditional affection and promised to continue honoring the club's colors until the end of his contract.
