After the Third Disciplinary Committee of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) applied a confusing sentence to Obina and Maurício, who, while defending Palmeiras, exchanged aggressions during half-time of a match against Grêmio, the Plenary decided to maintain the punishment of the players after a trial held this Thursday, January 14th.

In the new result, Obina's suspension remained unchanged for both games, while Maurício's remained unchanged for three. Thus, the now Flamengo player is out for the first two games of the Brazilian Championship, and the defender, who will play for Grêmio in 2010, will not play in the first round of the Copa do Brasil, when the Tricolor Gaúcho will face Araguaia/MT.

Due to the regrettable scene they caused at the Olympic stadium, the two players were charged with physical assault – article 253 of the former Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD) – and on the day of the trial in the first instance the charge was downgraded to 255 (act of hostility).

Soon after the incident, the players themselves expressed regret, but have never worn a Palmeiras jersey since. Obina was returned to Flamengo, while Maurício was traded to Grêmio.
