Flamengo hadn't won its first six official competition matches at the start of a season in 26 years. At the time, the red-and-black team managed to draw a friendly against Goiás, but in official competitions, they won six matches, counting for the Brazilian Championship that year, defeating São Paulo, Náutico, Treze-PB, and Ferroviário-CE, the latter two in two matches each.
If Flamengo wins Sunday's classic at Maracanã, the record will be broken again, as the red-black team has not won seven consecutive matches at the start of a season in official competitions since 1976.
