Flamengo's fans, players, coaching staff, and even the board have already made the Copa Libertadores da América the club's top priority in 2010. However, that doesn't mean the group is overlooking the Campeonato Carioca. Quite the opposite. Coach Andrade and striker Obina, a three-time champion in 2007, 2008, and 2009 and now back at Gávea, consider the state competition a crucial part of the club's schedule this season.

The Flamengo captain emphasizes the historic significance of a state title this year. After all, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, despite being the most successful team in the history of the Campeonato Carioca, with 31 titles, has never won four consecutive state titles.

"A title would be very important for Flamengo's history, for the fans, and for this young coaching staff, which is just starting out. We'll work hard on that. We worked hard last year, and we have to work twice as hard this year, because now Flamengo is the team to beat and everyone's target. The pressure will increase, and we have to be vigilant," Andrade analyzed.

A hero in the 2008 triumph, Obina also believes the State Championship should be a priority at the start of the year. Returning to Flamengo after a six-month loan spell at Palmeiras, the center forward dreams of winning his fourth title. And he would be a true four-time champion, having been a part of the titles over the last three years.

"We'll fight for the title, as always. Few have achieved the fourth title. I've been to the last three Carioca Championships, and if possible, I want to be in the fourth. We have to start focused on this championship, because the year is long, we have many tough competitions, and now it's time to focus. God willing, I'll play in the Carioca Championship for Flamengo. I'm immensely proud to wear this jersey," said Obina.

Andrade also believes the State Championship will be the most competitive in recent years. The coach cites the example of the last Brazilian Championship, which was only decided in the final rounds, praises his rivals, and assures that Flamengo will indeed make signings.

"The Carioca will be very competitive, just like the Brazilian Championship was last year. The teams are strengthening, and Flamengo won't be left behind. We're waiting for the right time to make signings. We can't do anything crazy. We have a budget, and within that, we'll bring in the players we need," he concluded.
