There's no denying that this generation of Flamengo players made history at the club. For the first time in 114 years, the Red-Blacks took the title of most successful team in the Rio de Janeiro State Football Championship. And it was precisely with this foundation that they also won the club's second Copa do Brasil in 2006 and their sixth Brazilian title last year, securing a trophy that hadn't been brought to Gávea for 17 years, since 1992.

What else is missing for this group to finally write its name in the pages of Flamengo's glory? The Copa Libertadores. The continent's most important title, the tournament was only won by Flamengo in 1981, during the Zico era. Today, 29 years later, Leonardo Moura and company understand the importance of making Flamengo the greatest in the Americas once again.

"It's incredibly important. I want to be remembered for this title. It's almost here. We just need to be aware and believe that it's possible. We need to keep fighting, with a strong team, to get there. None of the championships we've competed in so far have been easy. In all of them, we've overcome major obstacles, and this is yet another one. We have an intelligent, quality team that knows how to compete in major championships, and this one will be no different," he said.

A player with great speed and energy, Leonardo Moura ended up sitting out Flamengo's Brasileirão debut on Sunday against São Paulo. The player's plan was to rest himself for Wednesday's game.

"I asked to sit out the game against São Paulo because I'm coming in with a lot of pressure, a lot of fatigue, and playing games with one man down, and that makes things difficult. In the Libertadores, which is a championship where we can be champions, we're going for it, so resting some players at the start of the Brasileirão is a matter of intelligence," said the player who hopes to continue his good form against La Unión.

"Playing against the Chilean team, I hope to continue my work on Wednesday so we can get an advantage and go to Santiago well in the fight for qualification," he concluded.
