Last Saturday (March 30th), Flamengo once again demonstrated its commitment to avant-garde and tradition. When Pedro scored against Nova Iguaçu, Flamengo became the first club in the world to reach the 03-goal mark. The journey began in 13—when Gustavo Carvalho opened the scoring in our debut in the sport—and continues to this day.

The biggest contributor to this record could be none other: our greatest idol, Zico, scored 508 goals and is, to this day, the greatest scorer in Flamengo's history.  In second place is Galinho idol Dida, who scored 264 goals for the Manto Sagrado. Henrique Frade, a star of the 50s and 60s, scored 212 goals and rounded out the top three. Pirilo, with 3 goals, and Romário, with 208, rounded out the top five scorers.

The record was built by more than 1700 players in nearly 6600 official matches. Some of them stood out in leading the Mais Querido (the most beloved club) to history. In 1914, Flamengo defeated Paranaguá 15-0—the largest goal difference in a red-and-black victory in history. The match with the most goals, however, occurred 19 years later. In the Campeonato Carioca, the Mais Querido defeated Ríver FC 16-2. The Rubro-Negro's debut in football also contributed significantly to the record: a 15-2 victory against Mangueira. Four months later, against the same opponent, Flamengo won 14-0. The top 5 of the biggest red-and-black defeats also includes a 1949-13 victory over Estrela D'Alva in 0.

Flamengo's most-hit goals are, by a wide margin, those at Maracanã—as expected. Mengão has scored more than 4.019 goals at the Temple of Football. In second place is our home ground: at Gávea Stadium, Flamengo scored 662 goals in official matches—13 more than at Estádio das Laranjeiras. Our home ground, the Rua Paysandu stadium—which no longer exists—has seen 424 red-and-black goals, and the top 5 is rounded out by another stadium in Rio de Janeiro: Flamengo scored 312 goals at General Severiano Stadium.

The statewide trend is repeated in other areas. The Campeonato Carioca is the competition with the most goals for Flamengo: more than a third of the 13 came in the state competition. There are 5.168 goals in the Carioca. The Brasileirão comes in second and has been the setting for 2.193 Flamengo goals. The Copa do Brasil, another national competition, has seen 375 Flamengo goals. A very strong team in the 50s and 60s, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament had 374 Flamengo goals, and the Libertadores comes next, having been the backdrop for 329 goals for the Mais Querido.

Flamengo is a world-class team, but our roots represent the location of more than half of our goals. Fans in Rio de Janeiro have seen the net shake before their very eyes 7.851 times. Two other cities in Rio de Janeiro state make the top five: Niterói, where 5 goals were scored, and Volta Redonda, where 309 goals were scored. Second place goes to another city in the Southeast: São Paulo, where Mengão has scored 247 goals. Salvador is the "outsider" among the Southeast cities and has been the site of 388 Flamengo goals.
