Memories as motivation for a new story

Campinas was the scene of a fundamental result in the sixth title and could also have a decisive role in the fight for the seventh title.

Campinas (SP) - Campinas is a city that brings good vibes to the Flamengo team. Last season, it was precisely at the Brinco de Ouro da Princesa stadium, the venue for the match between Flamengo and Guarani this Sunday (August 29.08th), that the team from Gávea beat Corinthians 2-0 in the penultimate round of the Brasileirão. On that occasion, Flamengo took the lead with one game remaining in the competition and took an important step towards winning their sixth title.

This time, there's no leadership or title at stake. The match is only for the 17th round of the 2010 Brazilian Championship. The opponent isn't Corinthians, but rather the home team, Guarani, against whom Flamengo last played in a Brasileirão match in 2004. But the game is crucial for the red-and-black team.

With a change in coaching staff, the team will be led by interim manager Toninho Barroso and needs a win to get back into contention for a top spot in the standings. And if some players said during the week that the team was lacking luck, perhaps a stadium with good memories will help?

"We achieved a great result in a very difficult game, and hopefully the stadium will bring us luck again so we can achieve another positive result," said left-back Juan.

Ronaldo Angelim, who scored the winning goal for the sixth title, also fondly remembers the match against Corinthians and hopes the team will repeat the success of their last game at the Brinco de Ouro stadium.

"We played a good game, which was fundamental to the title. Now we'll be there again, with the opponent who owns the field, a strong team, but Flamengo will try to play a great game and seek victory," he stated.

With 21 points, Flamengo occupies 10th place in the table and with a victory could finish the round in eighth, ahead of Vasco, which has 23 after drawing with Cruzeiro on Saturday (August 28.08). Guarani, in turn, has one point less, 20, and is in 14th place.
