The press conference began with a speech by president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, who commented on his desire to have the athlete, as well as talking a little about the midfielder's resume.
"Rômulo is a player we've been following for a while now, and we really wanted to bring him to Flamengo. He's a player who needs no introduction. He played for the Brazilian youth and senior national teams, played in Europe for a long time, and now I'm sure he'll be a huge help to us in 2017 and beyond," said the Flamengo president.
Football director Rodrigo Caetano then took the floor, commenting on the resume of the Mais Querido's new number 27. The director revealed some details about the negotiation and stated that the athlete's profile fit the club's desires for the position.
"On Friday (13), Rômulo managed to resolve his contractual situation with Spartak. After that, we already had a verbal agreement and only completed what we had already defined with him. Within our scope of looking for four pieces, he was always part of our plans due to his profile and characteristics. I already had the opportunity to work with him when he had just arrived from Caruaru, when he played for the juniors. He built his career here in Brazil. He reached the Olympic Team and the main team, later transferring to Europe", commented Caetano, who added. "I hope he repeats everything he did during this time here at Flamengo", he concluded.
Next, it was the player's turn to answer questions from journalists in the Victorino Chermont Press Room. The Piauí native from Picos spoke about the joy of those close to him at this new stage of his career wearing the Flamengo jersey, especially his father, José Williami, a die-hard Flamengo fan, according to the athlete. Among other topics, Rômulo also discussed his playing conditions after returning to Brazil.

Red-blacks in the family
My family mainly includes my father, who is a Flamengo fan. He almost cried with emotion. I have many close friends who are also Flamengo fans. I hope I can bring them all much joy.
Physical condition
I'm feeling good. I'm also coming off a break; the season ended on December 5th. During my vacation, whenever I could, I tried to get some training in so I wouldn't have to start from scratch. Yesterday I did some physical tests, and today I did some more. I'm a little behind the rest of the team, as they've been here for five days working. I'll talk to the club's professionals to join the squad's training as soon as possible.
Emotion when talking about your hometown
In Picos, all I thought about was playing soccer. When I decided to become a player to leave the countryside, I realized it was very difficult. Many players there don't get opportunities. My town is very small. When I talk about my family and my childhood, it's incredibly emotional. It's hard to leave there, so I feel like I'm not just fulfilling my dream, but the dreams of many others.
Structure of the new CT
When I chose Flamengo, I'd heard a lot about the changes and realized that the structure was truly superior in Brazil. This is crucial for players to be ready technically, physically, and mentally, as well as to prevent injuries by playing as many games as possible.
