The 34th red-black title of the Campeonato Carioca, won undefeated this Sunday (07) with the 2-1 victory (3-1 on aggregate) over Fluminense, crowns the great campaign made by Mais Querido in this edition of the State. Since the beginning of the Taça Guanabara, a series of expressive results was accumulated by Zé Ricardo's team, who used a large part of the squad in the competition.

Throughout the championship, a total of 31 players from the squad were used in matches and were directly responsible for another excellent campaign. In the 16 matches played, Flamengo recorded 12 wins and 5 draws, scoring 39 goals and conceding only 12. Muralha led the way in appearances in the competition, with 22; closely followed by Willian Arão, who appeared 20 times; and Réver and Pará, both with 19 appearances.

Unlike recent editions of the State Championship, stadiums outside of Rio de Janeiro hosted several matches of the Mais Querido. Far from the traditional Raulino de Oliveira, Moça Bonita, Engenhão, and Maracanã stadiums, Zé Ricardo's men were able to play against red-and-black teams from other parts of Brazil in matches played at the Arena das Dunas in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte; the Kleber Andrade stadium in Cariacica, Espírito Santo; and the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasília, DF.

At Arena das Dunas in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, a 4-1 victory over Boavista paved the way for the first-round final. Paolo Guerrero, who finished the competition as the all-time top scorer with 10 goals, found the net twice, with debutant Trauco and number 35 Diego completing the scoring. It was evidence of an even more cohesive team, with many remaining players from the important 2016 Brazilian Championship campaign, which took the Mais Querido to this year's Conmebol Libertadores Bridgestone.

In another of the first-round routs, young Lucas Paquetá scored a goal that, in the opinion of many, was the most beautiful of the competition. In the 4-0 victory over Madureira, the "Boy from the Nest" hit a rare volley from close to the center circle.

The same was true in the opening match of the red-and-black team's Taça Rio campaign, with a 5-1 victory over Portuguesa at the Raulino de Oliveira stadium in Volta Redonda. A special moment marked the match, with Leandro Damião scoring his first hat trick wearing the Sacred Mantle. 

Unbeaten in classic matches, Flamengo put in strong performances against its three biggest rivals. In the Guanabara Cup, despite the narrow scoreline, the team's performance in the 1-0 victory against Vasco was impressive, securing a spot in the first-round final.

The athletes took to the field with the same desire to honor the Mantle and make the nation proud in the 2-1 victory over Botafogo at Maracanã. Paolo Guerrero's two goals sealed the result that took the Mais Querido to the final of the Campeonato Carioca.

In the first leg of the final, Flamengo secured a crucial victory with a first-half goal from Éverton. In the second leg, Paolo Guerrero and Rodinei, in the final moments, scored the goals in the final half to clinch the championship.
