Renato recalls historic clash with Vasco

Supporter was decisive in winning the 2006 Copa do Brasil over the great rival

For the first time in history, the Copa do Brasil was decided by two teams from the same state in 2006. Flamengo and Vasco faced off in the grand final. And as had been the case in recent finals between these rivals, the team from Gávea prevailed in a series that would be unforgettable for fan Renato.

One of the standouts of the red-and-black team's title campaign, Renato remembers that final fondly and warns that, although he believes the match against Vasco is crucial, a possible defeat cannot bring the team from Gávea down.

"I remember that 2006 final very fondly, but I believe that if we lose, it won't hinder our work. The leadership is good and the players are motivated. If we win, the team will really get going. But we can't think we'll win all eight games; at some point we'll lose," said Renato.

The number 11 also praised the work of coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo and expressed confidence in good results from now on, under the coach's command.

"He brought the motivation we needed. The work is paying off, the players are committed to training. Vanderlei also brought leadership. He's a person who needs no comment and is always helping us," he concluded.
