Flamengo's 115th anniversary celebration in Gávea was not attended by players from the club's professional squad for a good reason: they were training at Ninho do Urubu, the club's training center, in Vargem Grande. Even so, the athletes didn't let the occasion pass by unnoticed. Supporter Renato, a player with a strong connection to the fans, took the opportunity to congratulate the club on its anniversary and express his motivation to help the team climb out of the bottom of the Brasileirão standings.
"I want to congratulate Flamengo fans on today, on Flamengo's 115th anniversary. It's a brilliant history, a club that deserves everyone's respect. I congratulate them on the titles, on the club's greatness. Besides being a player, I'm a fan, and I'm saddened by the club's situation. Last year, they won the title in a historic run, but now it's time to motivate the players to overcome this situation," he said.
Renato knows that the pressure at Flamengo is always high, whether in good conditions, like in 2009, or difficult times, like this season, and he asks the team to remain calm so they can decide their future in the Brasileirão.
"Anyone who plays for Flamengo has to be aware of the pressure they'll face, whether it's winning a title or being relegated. Pressure here is constant. When things are good, it's joy, excitement, and motivation. Players get excited and do things you'd doubt. When it's a relegation battle, the atmosphere is tense. We have to try to work calmly," said the supporter, speaking to Nação on Saturday.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to call on the fans for the next game, fans who have always made and will make the difference. They will show up, help us, and dream. There's no reason to despair. For this to happen, everyone must be on our side. It's a delicate moment, and we need to draw strength from beyond," he concluded.
