After providing assists in the matches against Avaí and Internacional, it was midfielder Renato's turn to put the ball in the net in the derby against Vasco last Sunday. And in a way he's not very used to: with his head. The number 11 finished off a cross from Marquinhos on the left wing to seal the final result of the match – 1-1.
The player celebrated the goal and also the result, which ended up being positive for the team to move further away from the bottom of the table and solidify its position in the qualifying zone for next year's Copa Sudamericana.
"I scored a header, which isn't my specialty, but it's a good result. The team has been accumulating points to get out of the danger zone. We have a difficult game against Corinthians; we need to dedicate ourselves and rest," he said.
Criticized for his performances upon returning to Brazil, Renato celebrated turning things around after gaining more chemistry with the team and improving his physical condition.
"The criticism didn't shake me. I was sad because the club was going through a bad time and they started to portray me as a negative point. I always do self-criticism and I know what I'm capable of doing on the field. My friends and the fans have always been with me," he added.
This Monday, the Flamengo team will reconvene at 16:30 PM at Ninho do Urubu.
