Three years later, Renato returned to Brazilian football. As expected, he returned to wear the Flamengo jersey, where he became an idol during his last stint in the country, from 2005 to 2007. At 32, he said he would no longer be the same player as he was back then, due to his age, but promised great dedication and a desire to repay the affection he always received from the Rubro-Negro.

And last Sunday (19.09), in the classic against Fluminense, against whom he had already scored two goals in a 4-1 rout in 2006, he scored goals again, for the first time since his return, and did not hide his emotion: he almost burst into tears at Engenhão.

"I was emotional when I scored, but the team deserves congratulations for what they showed. We played on equal terms with the team in first place and we're on the right track. We just need to give it time and we'll get good results," he said.

Coach Silas praised the defender's determination, as he scored with his trademark powerful free kicks. The coach believes the number 11 has plenty of room for improvement this season.

"Renato scored the goal he's used to. It was good that he scored to gain even more confidence. He's been improving, he played the whole match, and I'm sure he can help us a lot throughout the year," he concluded.
