Flamengo achieved an important 2-0 victory over Ponte Preta on Wednesday night (14). In the debut at Ilha do Urubu, the Mais Querido had goals from Réver and Leandro Damião to crown the initial kick-off at the stadium. After the match, left-back Renê spoke to the press in the mixed zone.

"We really needed a win like this, without conceding any goals and with the support of our fans until the end. The stadium and the fans were very important. We knew we were coming off some bad results, but our team was battling and fighting, so we managed to get this positive result," the player celebrated.

Regarding the quest for a winning streak and changing the course of the championship from here on out, the full-back was optimistic. "We've already taken the first step. Now it's about working hard, keeping our feet on the ground, looking at our mistakes, and taking advantage of this series of games in Rio de Janeiro to reach the top of the table," said Renê.

Flamengo's next challenge will be on Sunday (18), against Fluminense, at 16 pm, at Maracanã. "A derby is always good to play. Packed stadium, support from our fans. I hope we have a good performance and, with this victory and one in the derby, we gain more confidence for the championship," concluded the left-back.
