Making his first appearance wearing the Sacred Mantle in 2018, Renê had a solid performance in the 1-0 victory over Cabofriense at Ilha do Urubu. Still seeking optimal physical condition, the left-back analyzed his own performance in the match, which saw the Mais Querido take the lead in Group B of the Campeonato Carioca.

"I wasn't 100%, but I felt good. I was able to play the time I was scheduled to. I was able to run a lot and help out. I'm still not at my ideal, but I hope that by Wednesday I can be better and if the coach chooses me, I can play a great game and help Flamengo win," he projected.

With his performance fluctuating last season, mainly due to the injury that sidelined him for a long period, Renê believes he can play even better. The healthy competition with Trauco for a spot in the red-and-black starting lineup on the left side of defense could lead both to further elevate their performance levels. The number 6 provided a self-assessment of his career with the Mais Querido thus far.

"I know what I'm capable of and that I haven't been able to play my best football at Famengo yet. Just when I thought I would have a run, I ended up getting injured. But that's football. I hope I can play my best football this year and that the coach has two important options in me and Trauco," commented Renê.

Despite the positive result, the left-back wasn't satisfied with the team's performance, emphasizing the dangers posed by Cabofriense at certain points in the match. According to the number 6, coach Paulo César Carpegiani also conveyed the same sentiment to the players, wishing them a better performance in the next match.

"What we worked on was putting pressure on their team to keep them from playing. We used a lot of movement and variations up front. We ended up letting their team mark us and not pressuring them. That's what he demanded of us after the game. Now we'll rest and work to win the next game and convince, which is what he expects of us," said the full-back, who added. "The pressure is always there, but each time we win, we gain confidence. We're getting more in tune. I know it's important to win and convince, but if we can't convince, we need to go for the win, because it's important. I hope we can maintain this momentum," he concluded.
