Signed during the team's most turbulent period in the Brazilian Championship, defender Fábio Luciano can't imagine himself away from Flamengo. The Flamengo captain agreed to a new contract until December 2008, with an option for another season. When the contract expires at the end of next year, Fábio will see if he can continue playing. If not, he will end his career at Gávea. "The renewal happened as it had to, quickly because both Flamengo and I wanted the agreement. I'm very happy and hope to have a wonderful year here," said the defender, explaining why he left open the possibility of staying in 2009. "I want to finish my career at Flamengo, but I'm not thinking about it yet. What I'm sure of is that I want to always play at 100% of my ability, always be useful, and not have to fulfill my contract out of obligation. The day I feel I can't do it anymore, it's better to stop and give a chance to someone who can truly help," he observed.
