BRASILIA - The only surprising thing was the change in opponent. Flamengo didn't face Al Khoyol of Lebanon on this National Arab Community Day in Brazil. The Arabs were represented by a local team, Brasília FC. But regardless of their rival, the red-and-black team did its part and won the friendly 3-0. Dênis Marques opened the scoring, and Camacho and Carlyle completed the victory in the second half.
Having not seen Flamengo up close for four years, Brasília fans turned out in good numbers at Mané Garrincha Stadium on Thursday night (March 25.03). Fans celebrated the presence of players like Gil, Dênis Marques and Bruno Mezenga. And, of course, Carlyle, a product of CFZ-DF, who came on in the second half and left his mark.
Once the ball started rolling, the Gávea team showed character and a will to win, despite some players' lack of coordination. Just five minutes in, Dênis Marques burst into the box and was brought down. The referee, however, didn't award a penalty. Bruno Mezenga nearly opened the scoring with a header. However, it was Dênis Marques who would ultimately score. In the 18th minute, he received a good pass from Galhardo and struck powerfully: 1-0.
With more possession and only being troubled on a few counterattacks, Flamengo remained dominant throughout the match. However, they were unable to convert their superiority into goals. Proof of this is that the team only scored again in the 13th minute of the second half. And it was a stunning goal. Camacho sprinted past two defenders and slotted the ball into the goalkeeper's left corner to extend their lead.
The celebration was already raging at Mané Garrincha, but it got even bigger in the 42nd minute of the second half. Dênis Marques played the pivot and set up young Carlyle, who calmly slotted past goalkeeper Diego and sealed the score. A victory for the red-and-blacks, and the certainty that some of this group can, indeed, be used in the first team soon.
