A revelation poised to explode in 2011.
A promising Brazilian soccer player since 2008, Marquinhos hopes to showcase his talent next season.

He arrived at Flamengo with the strong credentials he demonstrated in 2008 while playing for Vitória. At Palmeiras the following year, he struggled with injuries, but still impressed then-coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo. When he was signed by Flamengo in 2010, he didn't know he would be reunited with his former coach in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship. He did reunite, proved his talent once again, and now hopes to earn Luxemburgo's trust in the next season.
Marquinhos, just 21 years old, is one of Flamengo's promising players for 2011. A skillful and fast player who finished the year as one of the team's standouts, with one goal and four assists in nine games, he hopes to have a great preseason and even more opportunities in the coming year.
A native of Bahia, humble, always smiling and confident that he still has much to show, Marquinhos hopes to move beyond being a promising player and establish himself as a star, helping Flamengo compete for the titles they will be vying for this season. In an interview with the official website, he reveals his plans for 2011.

Flamengo - I'm happy here. Thank God. I'm glad because I haven't played for a long time and I'm pleased with this opportunity. Hopefully, next year I can help the team. I need to relax, rest during these holidays and work hard to arrive next season with new opportunities. Playing for Flamengo is a great joy for me. It's a great club, with a wonderful fanbase, and I hope to bring a lot of joy to everyone here.
Vacation - We work all year round, so when we have vacations we try to rest and enjoy ourselves. But responsibly. Because we need to come back rested, relaxed, and have a good start to the year. The pre-season is fundamental for the rest of the year, and we need to be aware of that.
To be a starter - I work for this. If Vanderlei needs me, he knows he can count on me. But I still need to improve in some aspects, I have to keep my feet on the ground and continue working calmly. Now we have an important pre-season to build momentum, and I will continue to strive, working hard every day, to establish myself.
Vanderlei Luxemburgo - It's good to work with experienced coaches, and Vanderlei is one of them. I'm happy to be reunited with him. He took me to Palmeiras, but I didn't have a good time there because of injuries. He knows me, he knows my style of play, and he'll look for the best formation for Flamengo.
In attack or in midfield - I don't have a preference. To help, you can't choose a position, but I'm playing as a midfielder and forward, which are the two roles I like to play and don't cause much trouble. I'll give my all, regardless of how I play. The coach is a great coach, he's giving us support, and everyone is keeping their heads and feet on the ground to have a great championship.
