Playing a key role in the 2-0 victory over Boavista, which secured Flamengo's Guanabara Cup title, Réver spoke to reporters on the pitch at the Kléber Andrade Stadium in Cariacica, Espírito Santo, after the final whistle. In his role, the Flamengo captain displayed his usual confident style, limiting the opponent's chances and commanding the defense.
However, another of his qualities tipped the balance and contributed to the opening of the scoring in favor of the Mais Querido. His aerial play was the weapon he used to break through Boavista's defense. Heading Diego's masterful pass into the middle of the box, Réver found Henrique Dourado, who was positioning himself to score. However, defender Kadu Fernandes intercepted the pass and scored the own goal that put Flamengo ahead.
The captain commented on his involvement in the goal. "I saw Dourado coming in alone and tried to pass it to him. I wasn't greedy, and it ended up deflecting off the defender. The bench thought it hit the goalkeeper's foot. But this goal is a different story," he said, celebrating the trophy. "We really wanted to win the title, especially since for many it means nothing, but for us, who work hard every day and have our goals throughout the year, we have to appreciate it. Especially with the fans there, who showed up and congratulate us on what they did for us today," he thanked.
Despite representing only the first round of the State Championship, lifting the Guanabara Cup represents a boost in the team's confidence for the rest of the season. Although the Mais Querido has had a successful start to 2018, their feet remain firmly on the ground in pursuit of other goals and achievements.
Réver emphasized the need to stay grounded in the pursuit of new trophies. "We can't let the word 'tranquility' enter Flamengo. We know that a big team can't function in this situation. We need to understand that there's still a lot to happen. We have to take it game by game and think big to give these fans the joy they deserve," he projected.
This Wednesday (21), at 19:30 pm, the Taça Rio dispute will begin for Mais Querido against the Madureira team.
