Midfielder Roger has been suffering from repeated muscle injuries since joining Flamengo. During training this afternoon (October 10th), the player did another weight training session at the club's gym. He expressed his frustration at not being able to help Flamengo on the field.
"I've been working hard at the gym. I can't train on the field yet, as I'm waiting for the results of a series of clinical tests to determine the cause of my repeated muscle injuries. I've never had a string of injuries before, but I hope to return for the match against Vasco."
The player has been receiving criticism for not being able to play. He defends himself, saying that he is the one most affected by the repeated injuries. He also reveals a conversation with the vice-president of football, Kleber Leite.
"I'm upset by the criticism. I'm the one who suffers the most from this situation. I feel bad for not living up to expectations. I arrived at Flamengo with a major long-term project, but injuries have gotten in the way. I spoke with Kleber Leite and told him I can work during this recovery period without receiving a salary."
With his contract running until the end of the year, Roger intends to turn things around and establish himself as a major fan favorite next year.
"I'm really excited to play. I didn't come to Flamengo to spend six months there. I've made history at every club I've played for. I spent three months without playing at Corinthians, and that's been hindering my ability to get back to my old form. The most important thing is that the board, the coaching staff, and the players trust me. I repeat, I came to Flamengo with a long-term project, and I won't disappoint," Roger concluded.
