Rogério believes in a surge in the Brasileirão

Coach sees balanced competition and highlights the importance of victory in the classic against Botafogo

The World Cup is finally over, and Flamengo fans will have the pleasure of seeing their team play in the Brazilian Championship again. And, despite the feeling that a lot of time has passed, the competition is still in its eighth round. In other words, there are still many points up for grabs, and Flamengo coach Rogério Lourenço is optimistic about his team's future.

The coach guarantees that the current Brazilian champion will have a great campaign in the second half of the year, starting with the classic against Botafogo, which according to him, is fundamental for Rubro-Negro.

"The championship is just beginning. Fluminense has 15 points and is in third place. We're close, but also close to the relegation zone. I think we'll still have some changes, like every team, but we're careful not to let the top teams open up an advantage. We always think about picking up points. It's a derby, and it's a big responsibility, but we're going for the win," he said.

With a squad that has been revamped compared to the one that started the season, Rogério is taking the pressure for good results in stride and believes that the days of preparation in the off-season will start to make a difference starting this Wednesday (14.07).

"Teams end up changing, that's normal. It happens in football. One player leaves, another arrives. We have young players with potential, experienced players arriving, and we're gaining a lot together. I believe that, at the beginning, whoever is better prepared physically will do well. There are four games in 12 days. These are 12 points that will make a difference, and we need to take advantage of them," he observed.

It's worth noting that Flamengo is ninth in the Brazilian Championship, with nine points from seven matches (two wins, three draws, and two losses). The team has already scored nine goals and conceded eight. This is another concern for Rogério Lourenço, who expects a more balanced team in the second half of the year.

"We scored a lot of goals, but we also conceded a lot. We needed balance, and I believe that training was important for that. I hope we can reap the rewards in the games," he concluded.
