Rogério analyzes the draw against Vasco
Coach believes Flamengo has proven it can be a competitive team in the Brasileirão

Flamengo and Vasco played a classic match as expected this Sunday (August 01.08st) at the Maracanã. Goals were lacking, it's true, but the match was exciting until the final minute, with a record attendance in the Brazilian Championship, and a match that was evenly matched, regardless of favoritism or standing in the standings. For coach Rogério Lourenço, it was a great spectacle.
"It was a great game. Both teams played forward, looking for the win, and Vasco even took a more cautious approach to our forwards. They played a 3-6-1 formation in which Nilton picked off one of our strikers, leaving only Nunes further forward," analyzed the coach, who praised the team's compactness, despite some movement issues in attack.
"We had a small movement problem in the first half, with Val coming back and still not being at his best. We were left with few options, but overall I thought the team was well-coordinated and organized," he noted.
The Flamengo manager considered the draw against their rivals fair, but stated that if Flamengo had won, it wouldn't have been a surprise. He praised the team's strong defense, but also warned that the team has been scoring few goals in the championship.
"We played a good game and could have won, but it was a fair result and we have to acknowledge Flamengo's best defense since the World Cup, having conceded only two goals in five games. We created opportunities, but didn't capitalize on them. I hope that this improves as the championship progresses," said Rogério, who wasn't surprised by the opponent's style of play.
"The way Vasco entered the field didn't surprise us, because we analyzed three possible variations of the formation in the pre-match talk and we were aware of how the opponent could come out," he added.
