Rogério celebrates victory and thanks the players

Coach credits victory to the athletes' dedication on the field and their ability to react

When he saw Flamengo score two goals in the final minutes of the match against Grêmio Prudente (3-1), this Sunday (23.05), coach Rogério Lourenço thought that, even though it is not a certainty in the world of football, justice was served. After missing many goals in the first half of the game, the Rubro-negro conceded the equalizer, but did not stop looking for the victory, the first for the current champion in the 2010 Brasileirão.

Accustomed to the football life, Rogério credited the players' desire for the triumph against the São Paulo team, especially after having been eliminated from the Libertadores last Thursday (20.05).

"Football isn't very fair. What really matters is the result. In the first half, we had a lot of chances, we could have killed the game, but we couldn't convert them into goals. At the beginning of the second half, we conceded the equalizer, and the team felt it, which is normal. But we were strong. The players managed to regain control of the game and left the field with the victory," said Rogério, praising the three points earned.

"It was important for the team, for the players, and for me. It was good for everyone. The Brasileirão is very balanced and started when we were in the Libertadores. Now that we're out of that competition, we needed to show that we're back on our feet. We managed to win the first one, and that's always the goal, playing at home. In fact, we always go out on the field thinking about winning."

Regarding future scoring goals, Flamengo's coach guarantees that he has his plan in place, but without putting pressure on the team.

"Everyone works in their own way. This goal thing is relative. We can plan for six points in the next two rounds and not achieve that. However, we can recover in the following games. The Brasileirão is long and it's important to maintain consistency. We're aware of that," concluded Rogério.
