Rogério praises the arrival of Marquinhos

Flamengo announced the hiring of two more reinforcements late afternoon this Friday (09.07). Goalkeeper Vinícius and midfielder Marquinhos, who will be presented on Monday (12.07), in Gávea. The midfielder, who stood out at Vitória (BA) in the 2008 Brazilian Championship, is an old acquaintance of coach Rogério Lourenço, with whom he worked in the Brazilian under-20 team and has the approval of the red-black commander.
Although already known nationally, Marcos Antônio da Silva Gonçalves is only 20 years old and is considered a revelation in Bahian football. For Vitória, the club that discovered him and where he emerged, he played 46 professional games, scoring 16 goals. A promising start to his career in 2008 was somewhat hampered by injuries. The following year, at Palmeiras, he played 32 games, but suffered numerous injuries and failed to score a single goal. But this doesn't discourage Rogério Lourenço, who knows what Marqiunhos is capable of.
"I worked with Marquinhos on the Brazilian U-20 team and I know what he can do. He's a player who can help us a lot, in a role where we needed reinforcements. He's a winger who drops to the wings to set up plays for the center forward. He's very fast and can also play as an attacking midfielder. At Vitória, he even played as a key striker," explained the coach.
The player, in turn, in exclusive interview with Flamengo's official website, confirmed this versatility and said he was ready for the mission of helping Flamengo on its way to its seventh Brazilian championship.
"At Vitória, I played as a second striker, as a central player, and also in midfield. I don't have a preference. I believe I can play in these positions and help in all of them. Thank God, I've managed to recover and I believe I'm getting back to fitness. I hope I don't have these problems again. It's very bad. But I'm sure everything will work out and that I'll be able to adapt well to the club to help the team," he said.
Marquinhos will be officially presented next Monday (12.07), in Gávea, as will goalkeeper Vinícius.
