Rogério Lourenço celebrates "career leap"
Coach, who began his career in the youth ranks of Flamengo, does not hide his happiness at leading the professional team

Last Saturday, president Patricia Amorim held a press conference revealing that she would appoint Rogério Lourenço as head coach of Flamengo's first team. The coach, who began his career in Flamengo's youth academy, took over the team a few days before the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 against Corinthians. He successfully implemented his philosophy, and the team advanced to the next stage of the competition. With his work well done and the support of the players, Rogério also earned the president's trust and made no secret of his happiness with everything that has been happening in his career.
The current coach's career is intertwined with Flamengo's recent history. Even as a player, Rogério was a key player in the club's fifth Brazilian championship in 1992. Later, as a coach, he enjoyed success leading the youth team and eventually took charge of the Brazilian U-20 national team, where he won the South American championship and finished runner-up in the World Cup. Identified with the club, he celebrates the opportunity to begin his career leading a professional team at Gávea.
"Obviously, I'm very happy. From the beginning, I've been saying that, for me, things won't change. My stance and attitude will be the same. Of course, I'll be implementing my work method little by little, and unfortunately, the time was short at the beginning, but I'm very proud to be able to manage a team like Flamengo," he said.
According to Patricia Amorim, for Rogério to move from interim to full-time coach, there are only a few details missing. But the coach assures that this won't be a problem.
"We won't have any problems in terms of getting it right. It's a big leap in my career and I'm very happy with this opportunity," he added.
Rogério Lourenço has coached Flamengo in three games so far. In both matches against Corinthians, he won 1-0 at Maracanã and lost 2-1 at Pacaembu Stadium. This Sunday, the mixed Flamengo team drew 1-1 with São Paulo in their Brasileirão opener.
