Rebuilding the defense with speed. This is coach Rogério Lourenço's goal with the tactical changes made in Friday's training session at Gávea. The coach opted to replace Rômulo and Maldonado with Toró and Michael in the red-and-black midfield, making the team more attacking and faster. The coach's goal is to allow the full-backs to advance while receiving quick coverage from the defensive midfielders.
Both this Saturday, against Vitória, in a game that, in addition to being fundamental for the Brazilian Championship, is seen as a good opportunity to prepare for the return match against Universidad de Chile, and in the game itself against the Chileans, it is with Bruno, Leonardo Moura, David, Ronaldo Angelim and Juan; Toró, Willians, Kleberson and Michael; Vagner Love and Adriano that Flamengo should play.
"We're trying out a few formations and looking for the best one for the team. In this game, we didn't do well at the start. So, from what I've seen, the intention is to bring back Toró to see if we can get a faster midfielder, precisely to cover the full-backs. Putting Kleberson further up, with Michael, to give us the creativity," explained Rogério.
The coach also commented on the absence of David, who missed training due to a personal issue but is confirmed for the team in Salvador. Álvaro, who has recovered from a calf injury, is also expected to travel with the group.
"David had a personal issue, nothing serious, and couldn't train. But if he's fit, he'll be back in the game as normal. We're taking Álvaro too, as he's already out of the medical department, and we'll decide whether he'll work tomorrow or sit on the bench. If there are no problems, David and Angelim will start," he said.
The red-black commander also pointed out that the substitution of Rômulo and Maldonado was not for technical reasons but rather tactical ones.
"Rômulo started well, there was a period when the team wasn't doing well, and the option was to make a tactical change. He was also feeling pain, but I saw the need to make a change, especially for the game against Universidad," he added.
