Romulo hopes to meet Corinthians again

The midfielder earned his first chance as a starter this season against the São Paulo team in the Libertadores

Midfielder Rômulo seemed forgotten at Flamengo when Rogério Lourenço took over the club. Training separately from the group and still deeply unsure about his performance after a serious knee injury, the number 39 jersey found new life at Gávea in the club's first game under the coach.

Precisely against Corinthians, next Sunday's opponent (08.08), in a match in which Rômulo, once again, could start. With Correa's suspension, the midfielder is considered the natural replacement in Flamengo's midfield formation.

"The games against Corinthians bring back great memories for me. Especially the first one, at Maracanã, when Rogério started me, I marked Ronaldo and, thank God, I did very well. I hope that, if I come on, I can repeat this good performance on Sunday," said the player, who has been training hard to take advantage of another potential opportunity.

"I've been working hard, as always, to get an opportunity. I work for this, and if Rogério chooses me, I'll give it my all. The important thing is to always be aware that you're doing the best you can," he said.
Aware that he performs a tactical role for Correa, Rômulo believes he can help the team protect the defense and free up the full-backs to attack.

"My role is different from Correa's, because I play a little further ahead of the defense, freeing up the full-backs and sometimes acting as a false third defender. But I believe I can help the team if I'm selected," he concluded.
