He has even played in a Libertadores game this season and is now part of the under-23 team competing in the category's first national Cup. One of the group's leaders and a trusted man of coach Renato Trindade, midfielder Rômulo, 23 years old, 10 of them with the Flamengo shirt, stood out again in the match against Palmeiras, last Saturday (25.09).
Playing two positions, he was crucial in marking the Green and White attack and left the field exhausted but with a sense of accomplishment. Even more so given the team's victory on penalties.
"I was very happy with my performance. It's important to be a versatile player these days, because the coach knows he can count on you, in my case, for example, both as a defender and as a defensive midfielder," he said.
The midfielder believes he's on the right track to get another chance with the first team. For him, however, it's crucial that the entire team performs well and strives for victories and the U-23 Cup title. Only then will opportunities arise.
"Today I did both jobs, I think I did well, but I was also pleased with the whole team. The whole team did well, we had another good game and we have to keep it up to fight for the title," said the midfielder, who commented on Borja's goal, in which he provided the assist.
"I could have shot, but I saw my teammate better positioned and rolled it to him. I consecrated Borja, didn't I (laughs)?", he concluded.
