He's already won the World Cup. He's been named the world's best player twice. He's wowed crowds with his football wherever he's played. However, he's never had such a large fan base at a club. Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, or simply Ronaldinho Gaúcho, will wear the Flamengo jersey. After an agreement between the Flamengo boards (Fla and Milan), the player's contract, which runs until 2014, was finalized on Monday night (January 10.01).
And Ronaldinho already knows what he can expect from all corners of the country: a lot of support from the nation. On the afternoon of last Wednesday (05.01), when a press conference was scheduled to announce that the player still had a contract with Milan, around 500 Flamengo fans already 'welcomed' the new star of the red-black football.
Aware that this was a historic victory for the six-time Brazilian champion, president Patricia Amorim did not hide her satisfaction in officially announcing the signing.
"We are pleased to announce the signing of Ronaldinho Gaúcho for the next four years. I thank the board for their discretion and wisdom throughout the negotiations. This is what I have sought throughout my term. This project began from the first day I took office. It's not just about bringing in a player, but also about ensuring working conditions for all professionals. I thank the legal department, Luxemburgo, and, above all, the Flamengo fans. Every day, everywhere, people ask about Ronaldo; this has fueled our negotiations," said the Flamengo executive.
After the announcement that the signing was very close to happening, this Monday, the nation was once again present and has already started to celebrate the major reinforcement, one of the biggest in history.
Ronaldinho arrives at Flamengo after spending nine seasons in Europe. On the old continent, the star wore the jersey of Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona, and Milan. With all three clubs, he won numerous titles, including the UEFA Champions League in 2006. Individually, he lifted the trophy for best player in the world twice, in 2005 and 2006.
The newest red-and-black star arrives to compete for four titles this season: the Campeonato Carioca, Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Brasileiro and Copa Sudamericana, all firsts in Ronaldinho's life.
