Forward Ronaldo Fenômeno, the all-time leading scorer in the World Cup, began his recovery this morning in Gávea, Brazil, from a delicate left knee surgery he underwent in February. According to Dr. José Luis Runco, the team's and the Brazilian national team's physician, the player will undergo muscle strengthening, physical conditioning, and ball work on the field.

A self-confessed Flamengo fan, Ronaldo thanked Flamengo management for the opportunity to undertake recovery work at Gávea.

"I thank Flamengo's board for the structure and opportunity. I will work with a very competent team, with the best professionals in the country. Flamengo opened its doors, and I am very happy."

Ronaldo stated that his passion for football is what motivates him to work to return to the field.

"Starting today, I'll start training regularly here in Gávea. It's the beginning of the final stage of my recovery. It's the hardest part, because the physical training is very exhausting. My love for football is what motivates me. I'm very excited and thinking about playing again soon."

Greeted by dozens of fans, the striker said that the affection shown by the red-black nation is something out of the ordinary.

"I thank the fans for their kindness. Everyone knows I'm a Flamengo fan and how much I care about the club. I can say that my heart is soft for Flamengo. My fanaticism returns tonight when Flamengo takes the field to face Figueirense. I'll be cheering you on."
