Flamengo's 2009 title proved to everyone that the Brazilian Championship is a balanced competition, with its ups and downs, where a team can't afford to waste good chances to establish itself at the top. With this lesson from last season, the red-and-blacks believe that this year, the championship will also be decided by the details and only in the final stretch, with many teams vying for the title.
Midfielder Correa arrived at Flamengo during the offseason in Itu. He wasn't part of the group that won the sixth title, but he's already thinking about making history by winning the seventh. To achieve this, he believes the Red-Blacks need to earn as many points as possible right away.
"We'll have several teams fighting, as was the case last year. The championship is balanced, and Brazilian football has learned to play a points-based game. We'll have many teams in the fight, and the important thing is to accumulate points to stay in the top group. What really matters is the end, but adding points from the beginning is important," he said.
Next Sunday (18.07), Flamengo faces Atlético-GO, at Serra Dourada. Despite the opponent being last in the table, coach Rogério Lourenço predicts a tough match, in which his team will need to sweat a lot to win.
"We have to know that every game is difficult. This is a team that will be playing at home, under pressure, and we have to know how to take advantage of that. We need to take advantage of the fact that they're in this position. But the responsibility is the same in every game. We have to be alert," he noted.
Flamengo is already in Goiânia, where they will train this Saturday afternoon (17.07).
