Christmas wishes to Santa Claus are numerous. But there are also those who take advantage of the date not only to make wishes, but also to give thanks. This is the case with the athletes of Brazil's most beloved club. Although 2010 wasn't such a positive year for football, the Flamengo players counted on the support of their fans, as always. And, therefore, they couldn't fail to send their messages to the fans on this December 25th.
Right-back Leonardo Moura, team captain and the longest-serving player in the current squad with over 300 appearances wearing the sacred jersey, only asks for health and success for his family this Christmas. Furthermore, he expresses gratitude for the affection and promises to always reciprocate, in the best way possible, the encouragement he receives from the stands across the country.
"The only thing I ask is that God gives me ever more strength to work towards my family's future. May He continue to bless me. I thank Him and my family for being by my side at all times in my life. To my dear fans, to the Flamengo Nation, my deepest gratitude for all the gestures of affection," he said.
Young striker Diego Maurício, who began to stand out in Flamengo's professional team in 2010, dreams of an even better season in 2011. With a short break from training with the under-20 national team to spend Christmas with his family, Diego hopes to give gifts to Flamengo fans next year.
"I can only ask for goals and titles. We want to take Flamengo back to the top and we will fight hard for that. Hopefully I can help bring joy to this fanbase, which is wonderful and has always supported me. That's what I ask for this Christmas; what I envision for 2011," he concluded.
The Flamengo professional squad is on vacation until January 3rd, when they will return to the club's training center, Ninho do Urubu, in Vargem Grande. On the same date, the team will travel to Londrina, Paraná, where they will carry out pre-season training.
