A sunny Saturday, the start of a long weekend, packed beaches, and sold-out airports and bus stations. This is Rio de Janeiro on October 30th. But for Flamengo's players, it's a day of work. And a lot of work, at that. The Flamengo players arrived early at Ninho do Urubu, a training center in Vargem Grande, for a grueling physical training session led by coaches Antônio Melo, Daniel Jouvin, and Diogo Linhares.
The players were divided into groups that performed a series of different activities at stations. The athletes left the field exhausted, but aware that this type of work is just as important as technical or tactical training. After all, in this final stretch of the Brazilian Championship (with only six rounds remaining), it's crucial to be in top physical condition.
With a busy week ahead of Wednesday's match (November 03.11) against Ceará at Castelão, the red-blacks see training days as essential. On Sunday (October 31.10), they get a day off, which is also seen as important for recharging their batteries.
"It's important that we train hard, make the most of this week, but also take some time to rest. This run of the Brazilian Championship is tough, and we have to do everything we can to get on the field in the best shape possible," said midfielder Correa.
