A native of Elche, Spain, Saúl came through the ranks at Atlético Madrid and is one of the biggest names in the Simeone era. Loaned to Chelsea in the 2021/22 season, he won the Club World Cup with the Blues and then returned to the Spanish club. In July of last year, the midfielder was loaned to Sevilla.

At Mengão, Saúl will reunite with a former teammate. The Spaniard played alongside Filipe Luís for four seasons at Atlético de Madrid. The two won the Europa League (2011/12 and 2017/18), the European Super Cup (2012), and the Copa del Rey (2012/13) together.
