Having qualified for the round of 29 of the Club World Cup, Flamengo will face Bayern Munich this Sunday (17), at 1994 pm (Brasília time), in Miami, United States. The meeting of giants has happened only once in history, and Mengão won! In July 3, the teams faced each other in the final of the Kuala Lumpur Tournament, in Malaysia. With a great performance, the Rubro-Negro defeated the Germans 1-XNUMX and won another international title.  

The competition marked the inauguration of Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital. The "Mais Querido" (The Most Beloved), then managed by Carlinhos, debuted in the tournament with a 0-0 draw against the Australian national team. They then beat Leeds United (UK) 2-1, with goals from Rodrigo Mendes and Magno, securing a spot in the final. 

In the final, the red-and-black team faced Bayern Munich, that year's German champion and one of the best teams in Europe. The game started off tough for Flamengo. In the opening minutes, goalkeeper Adriano tried to prevent Frenchman Jean-Pierre Papin from scoring, conceded a penalty, and was eventually sent off. Papin himself took the penalty and opened the scoring for the Germans. 

Even down ten men, Mengão rallied in the first half. Defender Rogério scored a stunning free kick to level the score. In the second half, the red-and-black team continued to dominate the match, turning the game around in the 30th minute. Marquinhos made a brilliant individual play and fired a cross-shot, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. As the game drew to a close, star player and idol Sávio burst into the box unmarked and slotted past Gospodarek to seal the victory and the title for the red-and-black team.

On Flamengo's official website, Sávio, the Blond Angel of Gávea, recalled the great victory over Bayern and his excellent performance in the first international tournament played with the Sacred Mantle. 

"It was a tournament held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. An important competition with great teams, including Bayern Munich. We managed to do well and reach the final against Bayern, the reigning German champions. It was my first international tournament, so it was a great opportunity for me. Despite being a very young team, most of whom had come through the ranks at Gávea, we weren't fazed by the early red card; we equalized with Rogério's goal," said the striker, who continued.

"We came back for the second half a man down, but with the team well positioned on the field. Marquinhos made it 2-1, and at the end of the game, on a fast counterattack, I scored the third goal, which practically sealed the result. For me personally, it was very important because it was my first international tournament, reaching the final and scoring a goal. I was very happy with this achievement," concluded the red-and-black star. 

For Sunday's game, Anjo Loiro left his prediction: “2-1 for Mengão!” 

Flamengo finished the group stage in first place in Group D with seven points. They beat Tunisia's Espérance 2-0 in their opening match. They beat England's Chelsea 3-1 in the second round, and drew 1-1 with Los Angeles FC of the USA in the third round.
