First to arrive and last to leave, Lomba's work is the weapon to keep the number of goals conceded low.

They say God helps those who get up early. In other words, those who dedicate themselves to their work and earn recognition. This is the case with goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba. Always one of the first to start training and one of the last to leave the field in the Flamengo squad, the goalkeeper is enjoying the best moment of his career. A regular starter, the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the Brazilian Championship post-World Cup, and embraced by the Red-Black Nation. And he credits all of this to hard work.
"As the saying goes, I try to be the first to arrive and the last to leave. I've always done that in my life, and even more so now. I've always trained hard to seize the opportunity when it comes. It's come, and I'm happy to be doing well, but I know I still have a lot of work to do. A goalkeeper needs to be constantly improving. Just because I've been performing well doesn't mean I'm going to relax," he said.
Improving daily is Lomba's goal in the red-and-black goal. Alongside Paulo Victor, Vinícius, and Diego Lima, he practices all the fundamentals with coach Cantareli to ensure he's always ready for games. After all, the goalkeeper is the player least likely to make mistakes during a match.
"I try to practice everything: goaltending, ball replacements, reflexes... You have to be prepared for everything in the game. I strive to improve every day. What I'm good at, I try to improve, and what I'm a little lacking in, I try to improve. I work hard with Cantareli, Flamengo's goalkeeping coach, to always perform well," explained the goalkeeper, who thanked the fans and his teammates for his success.
"I've been at Flamengo for ten years and I know what it's like to wear this club's jersey, I know the responsibility I have. I've always worked hard to take on this position. It's all the result of hard work. I've trained hard, even before becoming the starting goalkeeper, and I can only thank God, my family, my teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans for the recognition and encouragement," he added.
