No room for the ghosts of the number 9 shirt

Vagner Love celebrates his great phase and continues with the goal of making history at Gávea

The moment is good, but it could be even better. Vagner Love, Flamengo's top scorer this year with eight goals in seven games, continues to dream of making history wearing the jersey of his beloved club. His goal is to be not only a goalscorer, but also a champion. Of the Rio Cup, the Carioca Championship, the Copa Santander Libertadores... and everything else he can. That's why the player is excited for the rest of the season.

Vagner Love knows his contract with the Gávea team only runs until mid-year, but he believes there's plenty of time to shine. According to him, his strong relationships with his teammates have been crucial to this exciting phase he's experiencing.

"I'm having a great time and I'm making the most of it. I believe that when we work hard, things happen. God gave us the gift of playing football, and we have to take advantage of it. I arrived at Flamengo and was quickly welcomed by everyone. The group here is like that, and that makes things much easier. Confidence comes quickly. I'm 100% in tune," he said.

His strike partner, Adriano, is on the Brazilian national team, giving the Artilheiro do Amor a chance to become the top scorer in the Campeonato Carioca. However, Love isn't worried about that. The center forward says he dreams of being the top scorer with the same number of goals as his teammate.

"My job is to score goals. I always want to leave my mark when I step onto the field. That's what I work for. But I'm not at all worried about competing for top scorer with anyone. I'm going to work with Adriano to finish the State Championship as top scorers with the same number of goals," he said.

Another goal of the striker at Flamengo is to banish the ghost of the number 9 jersey. And if the players who wore that number before Vagner Love had bad luck, the same is not true for him.

"I arrived here and they told me that this ghost exists. I decided to wear the jersey to try to put an end to it. I really want to achieve good things for Flamengo. I really wore the number 9 and I will continue fighting to score more goals," he added.
