Flamengo's draw with Goiás, this Tuesday (September 28.09th), in Goiânia, was not considered a negative result by the Flamengo players. Coach Silas also believes that the draw achieved away from home ended up being good for the team from Gávea. The Flamengo coach only regretted the fact that the team conceded a goal in an accidental play, but praised the performance and dedication of his team.
"I don't have much to say. What happened was clear. The first half was balanced, we had more chances, but in the second half we made a mistake, an own goal, and we pressed again in the second half after that. I moved Leo and Juan forward, put Val Baiano in as a target man, and after so much persistence, the ball went in. We had one or two moments of disorganization trying to equalize, which almost cost us the defeat, but it was a one-sided second half. Goiás lost Moura (Rafael) and we pressed until the end, being rewarded with Deivid's goal," he said.
The coach analyzed the team's progress and cited left-back Juan, who was substituted in the first half of the match against Palmeiras last weekend, as an example. According to him, the number 6 had a great performance in Tuesday's game. Furthermore, Silas made a point of highlighting the fact that Goiás is a strong team, coming off a great result.
"We are working, we are seeing the group's progress... Juan, for example, had an excellent game today. We made a mistake and ended up drawing against a team that just thrashed São Paulo at Morumbi. We can't underestimate that team, which is also under a lot of pressure. The draw wasn't bad," said the coach, who explained the changes made to the team during the second half.
"Kleberson was the engine, and Pet could only come in to replace Renato, who has a more similar style. Since Rafael was sent off, I took off Maldonado, who had a yellow card, to put on Diogo. Renato ran a lot, so I put Pet on. Val was a reference point, he almost scored... Sometimes the plan works and sometimes it doesn't," he summarized.
Silas also revealed Flamengo's initial strategy for the match: to hold Goiás in the first half and look for a goal in the second half to win the game.
"Goiás conceded 14 goals after the final 20 minutes, and I even said that the idea was to try to keep a clean sheet in the first half, manage the game in the second, and wait for Goiás to attack, because a draw would be a bad result. We conceded a goal, and it kind of disrupted our plan. But today we saw a vibrant, fired-up Flamengo again, wanting to play, with collective football, and we were rewarded with that late goal, which allows us to sleep tonight ahead of the relegation zone," he concluded.
