Silas relies on persistence in work in search of results
Coach "gives morale" to the defense and the squad, shows confidence and believes the team will make a name for itself in the competition
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo coach Silas took over the club during a difficult period in the Brazilian Championship. Little by little, however, he's been transforming the red-and-black team. Seeking to fight for the top spot in the table, the coach is confident after the team's four-match unbeaten streak.
Remembering that the team was champion last year, he believes there is a natural relaxation, combined with the loss of players who were fundamental in the 2009 campaign. For him, all of this influenced the slightly lower-than-expected performance in the competition.
"We managed to turn sadness into joy. Some things only time heals. These were hard blows, not small things. Besides being Brazilian champion after 17 years. There was a lot of wear and tear to be champion and there's a natural relaxation, in addition to the departure of important athletes," he said.
Despite being optimistic, Silas highlighted the difficulties he has been facing and explains that taking charge of a team during the season is a little more complicated.
"It's not ideal. If I had to take over the team now, I wouldn't. Only if it was a proposal to take over, forgetting about this year and planning for next year. Here at Flamengo, we've already started doing that, otherwise there's no time. I'd say taking on work in progress is more complicated. Our defense has maintained consistency, we just need to keep our spirits up and keep working," he added.
