Flamengo's new coach will be Paulo Silas do Prado Pereira, aka Silas, from Campinas, who previously coached Grêmio (RS) in this Brazilian Championship. Before joining Flamengo, the new Flamengo coach, who signed a one-year contract, worked at Avaí (SC), where he led a strong campaign in the 2009 Brazilian Championship. The new Flamengo coach is in Campinas and will watch the match against Guarani at 16 p.m. at the Brinco de Ouro da Princesa Stadium.

Flamengo's executive director of football, Zico, gave an interview to the official Flamengo website and praised Silas's qualities both personally and professionally. According to him, Silas has everything it takes to succeed at the helm of the Red-Black team.

"He's a new generation coach who's been doing a great job for a long time and can meet our needs. He's a fan of an attacking philosophy, a team that can fit well with Flamengo, and he's done great work wherever he's been. I had the opportunity to work with him during the 1986 World Cup, and he's a serious, honest, and personable person. I hope he's very successful at Flamengo," he said.

President Patricia Amorim also celebrated the deal and explained that she is confident since Silas' signing was approved by vice-president of football Vinícius França, manager Isaias Tinoco and Zico.

"He was a consensus choice among Zico, Vinícius França, and Isaias Tinoco, which is already a huge endorsement. I'm very comfortable with the choice, confident because it was approved by them, and confident that we can make the breakthrough Flamengo has been waiting for in the Brazilian Championship," he added.

Silas is watching the match against Guarani and will be presented on Monday (30.08), in Gávea. The coach will talk to the players and the technical committee before deciding whether he will command the team on Wednesday (01.09), against Cruzeiro, in Uberlândia.
