Flamengo's new coach, Silas, completes a week in his new home this Monday (September 06.09th). Since his introduction, he hasn't had much time to work with the team, but he's already tried to give the club his own unique look. Seeking an attacking style of play, he made changes to the lineup, opted for players with better physical fitness, formed a midfield with three defensive midfielders, and featured Deivid and Diogo in attack for their debuts.
With the team still in formation, Silas explains that he will use consistency as the main foundation of his work at his new club. He, who did not start Petkovic in last Sunday's (05.09) game against Santos, cited the Serbian as an example of motivation for the rest of the group and revealed a conversation with the Serbian before the match.
"You have to understand that I have nothing for or against anyone. I'm a Flamengo fan. You have to know that. I asked Pet how many more years he wants to play. He said one or two more. And I'm not going to get in the way of that. The player came onto the field happy, desperate to score a goal. That's how it should be with the others," he said.
The coach also took the opportunity to emphasize that he is counting on Val Baiano and Leandro Amaral in the future, even though they were not selected for the match against Peixe.
"Leandro needs a little more care because he hasn't played for a while. Val, no. His ball isn't going in, but he ran and fought hard against Guarani and Cruzeiro. We can't lose Léo Moura and Juan offensively. We need to find a way for them to attack more. That way, the ball will start arriving more and we'll be able to pressure the attackers," he added.
