Is there only room for one David at Flamengo?

Defender jokes about new signing "almost his namesake" and warns: "he's going to have to come up with a nickname"

Flamengo's new signings usually have to go through the traditional Polish corridor to receive a warm welcome from the red-and-black squad. But, in addition, another surprise awaits striker Deivid at Gávea. Defender David, whose name is spelled differently but pronounced the same, warned, with his characteristic good humor, that the new signing will have to be nicknamed to avoid confusion on the field.

"I was even commenting to people that we have to find a way to differentiate this. Yesterday I joked on Twitter and Flamengo fans said that we have to give him a nickname, or call each other by our last names...", he said.

And this won't be the first time David has made a teammate "change" their name. When he played for Palmeiras, he also encountered a "near namesake."

"I've been here longer, at clubs normally the later arrivals get the nickname, right? At Palmeiras, there was Deyvid, who became Deyvid Sacconi. We'll see how it goes," he recalled.

If it's up to the defender, the striker will be warmly welcomed by the group. Deivid stated in an exclusive interview with Flamengo's official website that he believes a relaxed environment is a good place to work. Therefore, he should fit in well with Flamengo's squad, where good humor is one of its main characteristics. David can attest to that.

"He's definitely another player to help us in the Brazilian Championship and also in the games. We've welcomed everyone here very warmly, and Deivid will definitely be another player to join this wonderful group we have here," he added.
