South American is not only in the red-black discourse
Players are very motivated and only think about securing a spot in the competition to end the year well.

When he arrived at Flamengo, Luxemburgo was direct in his plans to lead the team: to secure a spot in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. With a slim mathematical chance of reaching the Libertadores, the coach told his players they should think upward, not downward, as had been the case. And in two matches, this has already paid off.
The psychological factor seems to have really kicked in, and against Atlético-GO and Avaí, Flamengo earned four points. If this average holds until the end of the championship, a spot in the South American will be guaranteed.
"The idea of securing a spot in the Copa Sudamericana helped a lot. Before, the team played with the relegation zone in mind, forgetting that they could achieve better things. We're growing with this mindset, and we're really close to the Copa Sudamericana. Luxa has helped a lot in this moment," said Kleberson, praising the red-and-black team's attitude in recent matches.
"We won four points and could have come away with two wins. But, even with a less than perfect second half against Avaí, you can see that the team has improved," the midfielder assessed.
With three home games in a row (Inter, Vasco, and Corinthians), everyone at Flamengo expects to come out on top. While respecting their opponents, the players know that victories against teams higher up in the table bring them ever closer to their ultimate goal.
"We have home games, but they're three tough matches. We have to be fully focused. The players are highly motivated and eager to achieve these results. The teams we'll play are ahead of us, and with a win, we can close the gap on them. We'll work hard to achieve that. I'm sure we'll achieve positive results," concluded Kleberson.
