This Sunday (7), Paulo Cesar Carpegiani turns 67. The gaucho from Erechim wrote his name in Flamengo's history with nothing more and nothing less than winning the 1981 world title, as coach. Before commanding the team (1981 to 1983 and 2000), Carpegiani defended the Sacred Mantle within the four lines from 1977 to 1981.
As an athlete, he was trained at Internacional. At Flamengo, he was part of the team that won three state championships (1979, 1979 special, and 1980) and the club's first Brazilian Championship (1980). Previously a member of the squad, Carpegiani had barely hung up his boots in a friendly against Boca Juniors on September 15, 1981, when he took over as coach of the Rubro-Negro after the death of Claudio Coutinho. As a coach, he led Flamengo to its greatest achievements: Copa Libertadores e World, both in 1981, and the 1982 Brazilian Championship.
